In the first image there is a boy sitting and possibly drawing or doing homework. Thomas Schaefer takes his photographs as memories from his childhood in a photo. Relative to this, we can assume this is one of Thomas' memories from his childhood. The subjects we have in the image is the child and the father. There are many colours in the image, blue and red being the mains. The main focus of this image seems to be the child as the lighting on his face and body is so prominent with the lamp. The reason the child is the main focus would be that his dad was watching tv so he can assume he was there but being the child he could only know where he was at the time. The purpose of the image is to retell his life. I think the message he is trying to show is which would be apparent in all his images would be that he wants us to get a view on what his childhood was like and what lifestyle was like when he was a child. I personally think this image is great as I enjoy the cinematic look and the details behind his photos

In the second image, we see 2 what we can assume are parents, the father sitting and doing his work and the mother looking in the mirror after a shower, looking quite dissatisfied. As explained, these images are moments from Schaefer's childhood, so one can assume that he had seen this exact moment as a child. the composition of this image is very interesting, using multiple mirrors to put the mother in the photo and the father suggesting something might have happened between the 2. Being a staged shot it almost gives off horror movie tension. Our main focus tends to be both the mother and the father as the 2 most contrasting lights are on their bodies. I believe he emphasised the expressions the most because they are the most about this moment that he remembers. The purpose of this image seems to be to show how he remembers many moments from his childhood including ones not so great. I believe the artwork is successful as it gives off a feeling hard times for Schaefer and the viewer has a chance to experience that.
